Math: Last Week: Students have been learning about parallelograms and triangles. We are practicing writing the formulas, substituting and answering questions with units squared. ***Check out the area video below! This Week: Students in 7D and 7E will finish up circumference, area and diameter. Classes 7A, 7B and 7C will be finishing up triangle and parallelograms and moving on the area of a circle. Homework: 7A - Parallelogram and Triangles Quiz on Monday, April 23rd. 7B and C = 4.3 and 4.4 sheets are due on Monday. ***Circumference quiz needs to be corrected AND signed! 7B and C= Triangle and Parallelogram Quiz on Wednesday, April 25th. Students should review formulas for area of a square, rectangle, triangle and parallelogram. All students should have a geometry set. Science: Last Week: Students have been looking at mountain ranges and the categories of mountains. We have been starting to look at the geological timeline and the different eras. We also are starting talking about fossils - how they are formed, what they are, etc. ***Check out the video below! This Week: We will continue looking at the different eras and significant events in each era. Students will start looking at fossil fuels. They will define words in their personal journals and debate the KinderMorgan Pipeline. Homework: 7A - Geological timelines due Monday! 7B and 7C = Geological timelines due Tuesday! School Events: On Friday, April 27th the school will be completing its second design challenge. For this design challenge, students should be bringing in some of the following items: - cardboard, egg cartons, nails, screws, elastics, dixie cups, dowels, paper towel and toilet paper rolls

Math Last Week: Students in 7A, B and C wrote a quiz on circumference which included solving radius, diameter and circumference problems. 7D and 7E started learning about circumference and will continue next week. This Week: Students will start learning about parallelograms and how to figure out the area. (Check out video below!) ***Students need a geometry kit for this unit!!!*** Science Last Week: We talked about earthquakes and volcanoes and learned several new vocabulary words including: fault, epicentre, normal, reverse and strike-slip earthquakes, magma, pipe, vent, dormant, surface, primary and secondary waves. We used longitude and latitude lines to plot major earthquake and volcano events that have happened on Earth. This Week: We will begin looking at mountains. Students will plot the major mountain ranges on a world map and we will learn about the different categories of mountains, as well as the different ways mountains can be formed. Here are some extra practice worksheets with answers for the next unit.
Homework: Students in 7D and E need to finish the Earthquake Webquest.
***Students will need a Math Geometry Set right after the break. The Oxford Set with the steel compass is the best! Math: We will be starting Unit 4: Circles. We will start with the Great Circle Hunt. Science: We will be continuing with Planet Earth and earthquakes. Only 3 days this week! Please book in for your conferences.
Math: Students in 7A, B and C have their 20 x 20 grid assignments due. Students will begin looking at percentage problems. Science: We will be looking at plate tectonics, continental drift and the theory behind Pangea (the supercontinent!) Math: Last Week: Students finished multiplying decimals this week. Some classes have moved on to order of operations and using BEDMAS to solve equations. This Week: On Monday, March 12th classes 7A, B and C will be writing an Order of Operations quiz. Students should review BEDMAS. Wednesday, March 14th is pi day! All classes will be celebrating with a pi competition - the student who recites the most digits of pi will take home an actual pie! Good luck everybody! (participation in this is optional). Some classes will also be looking at how fractions, decimals and percents relate to one another. Homework: 7A, 7B and 7C will be handing in their BEDMAS assignment on Monday, March 12th. Science: Last Week: Classes have been working on the rock cycle and have learned how rocks cycle through as igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. This Week: We will continue looking at Planet Earth and exploring topics such as erosion and weathering. On Wednesday, March 14th, 7D and 7E will be holding their rock concert! Homework: Rock cycle assignments are due in 7A, B and C on Monday, March 12th. Math
Last Week: Classes were working on dividing decimals. This Week: Students will be continuing their work on dividing decimals. Some classes will start looking at BEDMAS and order of operations. Homework: On Wednesday, March 7th, 7D and 7E are writing a test on multiplying decimals using base ten blocks. Ms. Pond will be collecting the assignment for base 10 blocks and Shop Till you Drop on Monday, March 5th. ***Students in 7C and 7B - please have your 3.3.- 3.4 math quiz signed and returned and Shop Till you Drop completed for Monday! Science Last Week: Students were working on identifying minerals through the following classifications: lustre, colour/streak, cleavage, fracture, and hardness. In some classes, students became geologists and had to use these classifications to identify mystery minerals! This Week: All classes will be learning about the rock cycle. They will be given options on how they want to demonstrate their learning of the rock cycle including a comic strip, story or news article. They will include the following scientific vocabulary into their assignment: igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, sediments, magma, weathering and erosion, heat and pressure, crystallization, cooling, melting and compaction. Homework: Students in 7D and 7E should be working on the written component of their rock cycle. They will be given time on Monday and possibly Tuesday. Math
Last Week: Students were working with base 10 blocks and grid paper to multiply decimals. This Week: Students in 7B and 7C will be writing a quiz on 3.3 and 3.4 - front end estimation, adding and subtracting decimals, and multiplying decimals. Extra practice sheets are available on the Jan.22nd blog. Homework: 7D and 7E - correcting multiplying decimals using base ten blocks and grid paper sheet due! 7C AND 7B - math quizzes signed and returned ***PLEASE BRING IN FLYERS FOR OUR NEXT ACTIVITY! Science Last Week - Students began the unit "Planet Earth". In groups, they created a placemat with information from each of the 10 topics. In their groups, they shared this information This Week: Students will be looking at how to identify minerals. Homework: 7D and 7E - Rock Cycle Assignment - Students need to think about the written component of their rock cycle. They can choose between comic strip, newspaper article, short story (Magic School bus) and the music component.
