You are going to create a personal portfolio showing evidence of interests, assets and skills. A portfolio is something you compile in order to “sell yourself” in a job interview or volunteer position. It shows people what you have accomplished, what your interests are, and tells them a little bit about you as a whole. Before you begin this assignment, you should brainstorm categories to include in a personal skills and interests portfolio. For example, you could include interests, skills, goals, talents, or educational accomplishments. Your next step is to collect and/or create information for your portfolio. Some things to include could be pictures, certificates, awards and letters. For example, you can include pictures of family, travel, projects, or anything else you have done. You could ask for a reference letter from any paid or volunteer work that you have done. You need to explain all of the items and pictures that you put into your portfolio. For example, if you include a picture of your family, you need to provide a brief description of who each person is, what they are like, what they are interested in etc. This is where your creativity comes in. You need to think of things that you can use to describe yourself, describe the things you enjoy in life, and showcase your achievements. You must have a minimum of 5 different categories in your portfolio. Please see the back of this sheet for suggestions and ideas. You should compile your information into a duotang or something that can be easily carried with you to show a prospective employer. Do not use a binder. You also need to create a detailed table of contents for your personal skills and interests portfolio. This should be right after your cover page. You should put a substantial amount of work into this assignment so that you are proud of your final project.
