***Students will need a Math Geometry Set right after the break. The Oxford Set with the steel compass is the best! Math: We will be starting Unit 4: Circles. We will start with the Great Circle Hunt. Science: We will be continuing with Planet Earth and earthquakes.

Math: Students in 7A, B and C have their 20 x 20 grid assignments due. Students will begin looking at percentage problems. Science: We will be looking at plate tectonics, continental drift and the theory behind Pangea (the supercontinent!) Math: Last Week: Students finished multiplying decimals this week. Some classes have moved on to order of operations and using BEDMAS to solve equations. This Week: On Monday, March 12th classes 7A, B and C will be writing an Order of Operations quiz. Students should review BEDMAS. Wednesday, March 14th is pi day! All classes will be celebrating with a pi competition - the student who recites the most digits of pi will take home an actual pie! Good luck everybody! (participation in this is optional). Some classes will also be looking at how fractions, decimals and percents relate to one another. Homework: 7A, 7B and 7C will be handing in their BEDMAS assignment on Monday, March 12th. Science: Last Week: Classes have been working on the rock cycle and have learned how rocks cycle through as igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. This Week: We will continue looking at Planet Earth and exploring topics such as erosion and weathering. On Wednesday, March 14th, 7D and 7E will be holding their rock concert! Homework: Rock cycle assignments are due in 7A, B and C on Monday, March 12th. Math
Last Week: Classes were working on dividing decimals. This Week: Students will be continuing their work on dividing decimals. Some classes will start looking at BEDMAS and order of operations. Homework: On Wednesday, March 7th, 7D and 7E are writing a test on multiplying decimals using base ten blocks. Ms. Pond will be collecting the assignment for base 10 blocks and Shop Till you Drop on Monday, March 5th. ***Students in 7C and 7B - please have your 3.3.- 3.4 math quiz signed and returned and Shop Till you Drop completed for Monday! Science Last Week: Students were working on identifying minerals through the following classifications: lustre, colour/streak, cleavage, fracture, and hardness. In some classes, students became geologists and had to use these classifications to identify mystery minerals! This Week: All classes will be learning about the rock cycle. They will be given options on how they want to demonstrate their learning of the rock cycle including a comic strip, story or news article. They will include the following scientific vocabulary into their assignment: igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, sediments, magma, weathering and erosion, heat and pressure, crystallization, cooling, melting and compaction. Homework: Students in 7D and 7E should be working on the written component of their rock cycle. They will be given time on Monday and possibly Tuesday. |
