We are starting to knit, we'll practice and then we'll be making scarves!
Here are a few links we used about what knitting is and how to cast on: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZRscF-zVz4 (super weird, but it does show you what knitting is) www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZRscF-zVz4 (skip to 1:30 to learn to cast on)

I am super jazzed about this term!
If you missed today, students were given a course outline and informed that there is a $10 fee that needs to be paid by Friday! We also made bags for our knitting supplies using the tutorial below (in case you want to make more): www.mommypotamus.com/no-sew-t-shirt-tote-bag-tutorial/ For the final project in photography, you are going to choose to work on photoshop and create a double exposure picture or you are going to put all your pictures together in a portfolio.
Here are some tips to put together your portfolio, this is designed for a website, but you can use pages and pick a template to put your photos in. www.thephotoargus.com/40-great-photographer-portfolio-websites-for-inspiration/ For the double exposure, use your portraits and a photo you took to blend together, we will do this together as a group so we follow the right instructions. Your next challenge is to look into the effects of bokeh in photography. So far our projects have focused on perspective and exploring different ways of looking at subjects, while also developing an eye for lighting, background and rule of thirds.
Looking at bokeh will help you develop a better understanding of aperature and depth of field. This will be a self-directed project, however, working with a partner may help you be more successful. In order to understand the effects of bokeh and the camera settings you will need, you’ll have to do a little bit of research on what it is and how to achieve it. You may not understand all the terms in the article, so you may have to do more research. You can explore bokeh in everyday photographs, o create bokeh shapes. You will need to take notes and put them in a document in your folder. Here are some links to get you started:
Understanding these aspects of the camera and photography will make you a better photographer. It’s easy for everyone to pick up a camera and take pictures, but it is more difficult to take interesting pictures! You may have to use a different lens and settings for this project, your research will help you figure out what you need. HAVE FUN! In photography now, whenever you take a picture, you need to explain that picture to me. Why is it important? What does it mean to you? Did you follow the rule of thirds? Did you think about the background and lighting? What about those things make this a good picture?
Here is my example, using the picture at the top of the page: I took this picture because I thought the landscape was very interesting because you are at the top of a giant volcano and you are above the clouds, looking over the edge. It looks like you are at the edge of the world. I think this is interesting because it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something important, that they rest of the world doesn't exist. I think they are good photos because they follow the rule of thirds. My horizon line is on the top third and that draws attention to the flowers and road. I also think the brightness of the photo adds to the happy feeling. Your next task in photography is to take an abstract art photograph. Abstract art is usually seen in paintings where there is shape, texture, lines and colour. The meaning may be unclear to the viewer, but the images should provoke an emotional response. You will create abstract art using those same elements in photography. LINE, SHAPE, TEXTURE and COLOUR. A triptych photograph is made up of three separate photographs that are closely related and intended to be displayed together. A triptych can tell a story or show progression and growth. A triptych can also display a variety of techniques for each photo in the series. This is another chance to explore the perspective of a single subject and display that understanding in a series. For this challenge, YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO WRITE A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING WHY YOU USED THESE SPECIFIC PHOTOGRAPHS. Here are some EXCELLENT examples from photographers on the internet and a website you can do this on: www.photojoiner.net/merge-photos/editor This is one I made with that website, it is very quick and easy. If you want to explore Photoshop more, you can use that for this as well.
Your first assignment is to take a ground level shot to explore different perspectives of the world around you. Using a ground level shot can change the perspective, mood and meaning of a subject. REMEMBER WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPH???
Once you are done, please upload to your Photography 7 folder on google drive. Hello all!
Here's the course description so you know what you're getting into: "Students will critically examine photographs for technical skill and artistic qualities in order to create visual art. We will explore the digital camera and its capabilities while considering light, composition, photo editing and enhancing. Students will explore these elements while completing project-based assignments." Now that you've read that very stuffy paragraph, I'm sure you're all jazzed for photography! In reality, it is actually very fun. |
