Last week: Students finished divisibility and wrote a quiz. We started learning a new language in math: algebra! Students learned what a variable, numerical coefficient, constant and algebraic expression were. We practiced translating from words to symbols and vice versa. For example, students wrote a number decreased by seven to x - 7. We also learned that than is a switch word.
Homework: 7A, 7B and 7C please get your divisibility tests signed for Monday, September 25th. 7D and 7E - your test will be returned on Monday.
This week: We will start looking at relationships in patterns and input/output tables.
Last week: Students reviewed manipulated (independent), responding (dependent) variables and controls. In groups, students read a series of Sponge Bob experiments and had to answer a series of questions about the variables and results. We watched some Myth Busters videos and students had to determine the manipulated and responding variables in each. The link for the videos are below. We also reviewed graphing and students completed a line graph and bar graph in class.
Homework: Students will choose one graph from their science booklets to complete at home. These are due on Monday.
This week: Classes will be completing graphing and doing a quick review on observations versus inferences. In groups, students will be constructing a golf ball bridge as the introduction to our Structures and Forces unit.
