Your book "shape" novel project is due on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 30! You will not have a lot of time next week to work on this, so you should have at least 4 done before next week.
Today we went over your explorer notes and there was a homework check. We also watched three pixar short films to look at character motivations and types of conflict. After watching the videos, use this sheet to examine the character's and conflicts. Choose one video, on the front, choose a character to examine in a mind map (the protagonist from one of the videos). On the back you need to show the developing conflict in a plot diagram.
Here are the links to the video:

Today we will work on 3 more!
Keep in mind that the important information is all about what they did on their exploration voyages.
Last week we talked about why explorers went out to find new routes to India and Asia. The 3 G's, which you should be able to explain if you're asked. This week you're going to "explore" (ha) more in depth about individual explorers and their motivations to sail. Here is the info sheet you will need to fill out:
And these are the links you should use to find the information. You don't need to use any other website, all the information you need will be there if you READ.
www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/john-cabot/ exploration.marinersmuseum.org/type/age-of-discovery/ Today we completed a song analysis to understand and explain what the song "The Man in the Mirror" means, what its message is.
You need to listen/watch/read and explain what the song means. You have to use evidence (lyrics) from the song to support your conclusions. If you have four pieces of support, that is excellent. If you use three, that's good. Two is basic and if you only have one supporting lyric, that's limited. The lyrics, an example for a different song and the rubric are included below. Lyrics: “Man in the Mirror” – Song Analysis I'm gonna make a change For once in my life It's gonna feel real good Gonna make a difference Gonna make it right As I, turn up the collar on My favorite winter coat This wind is blowing my mind I see the kids in the streets With not enough to eat Who am I to be blind? Pretending not to see their needs A summer’s disregard, a broken bottle top And a one man soul They follow each other on the wind ya' know 'Cause they got nowhere to go That's why I want you to know I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change I've been a victim of a selfish kind of love It's time that I realize That there are some with no home, not a nickel to loan Could it be really me, pretending that they're not alone? A willow deeply scarred, somebody's broken heart And a washed-out dream They follow the pattern of the wind ya' see 'Cause they got no place to be That's why I'm starting with me I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself and then make that Change! I'm starting with the man in the mirror (Oh yeah!) I'm asking him to change his ways (Better change!) No message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself and then make the change) You gotta get it right, while you got the time You can't close your, your mind! (Then you close your, mind!) That man, that man, that man, that man With the man in the mirror (Man in the mirror, oh yeah!) That man, that man, that man I'm asking him to change his ways (Better change!) No message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself and then make the change Example: I believe that the song "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas is about how life goes by fast and how we have to enjoy it while it lasts. I think this because in the song they sing "I close my eyes, only for a moment/and the moment's gone". I also think that the song is telling us that what we as people accomplish in our lives does not last after we are gone, "All we do crumbles to the ground...nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky". People are just "dust in the wind" so we have to make the best of things while they last. Rubric: Today we wrote a paragraph explaining the worldview of Europeans in the 15th and 16th centuries. If you were away, please complete this and hand it in tomorrow. 7C's need to be done for Wednesday.
Explain the worldview of European countries during the 15th and 16th centuries based on the game we played last week. What was important to them? Why was it important? You should use your notes! This will be handed in by the end of class. Write at least 8 sentences! To access the examples we went over in class today and prepare for the quiz tomorrow download the PDF below:
Today you should have finished your visual for your stanza in "The Terrible Path" by Brian Patten. Tomorrow you should be working on the paragraph portion of the assignment. Please check out the rubric, it's in the previous blog post.
